On Friday the journey back to the First Republic began with the opening of a period café, offering everything you would expect from a 1920s coffeehouse. At dusk many passers-by were stopped by Eva causing mischief from the open-air cinema right on the square. The evening concluded with a striking videomapping on Four Buildings, which narrated a century-old story.
Saturday morning saw the square host period markets, the café was full of guests, and the overall atmosphere was provided by a vintage car exhibition, an ensemble of extras and retro cyclists. In the adjacent streets, the 4 Grannies told Budějovice tales and legends. The accompanying programme in the form of a dance school, a period fashion show or The Postman's Fairy Tale delighted many visitors and drew them into the First Republic atmosphere. The stage programme featured Big Blast band, the unique Jan Smigmator&Swing Trio and the icing on the cake was the swing legend Ladislav Kerndl.
